“The reality in documentary film and tv: trends 1920’s-present”
Dr. Berber Hagedoorn, Assistant Professor in Media Studies, studies multi-platform storytelling, cultural memory and the re-use of audiovisual archival footage – particularly for television, film and digital media. Her lecture will discuss different ‘modes’ of documentary making since the 1920-present, reflecting on ‘realism’, ‘authenticity’, and the impact of the documentary genre on contemporary television programming (from news to music video clips). Different examples will be screened and approaches for analyzing documentaries will be discussed. Hagedoorn has published numerous articles on documentary film and television programming, including her recent article about “Andere Tijden”; the renowned history series “In Europa” and her work on found footage documentary filmmaking, published in Studies in Documentary Film
The lecture will be held on Wednesday, February the 28th, from 19.00 to 20:00 in room A3 of the Academy Building.
